Preparing for the Peace Corps

This is my first real blog post. I want to start documenting (and sharing) what's happening with me as I prepare for a new chapter in The Ever-Changing Life of Amy.

On March 4, 2010 I received notification that I've been nominated to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Eastern Europe doing NGO Development. This is exactly what I wanted and worked hard to get. I do not yet know the country or actual NGO for which I'll be working. I first have to complete extensive medical, dental and eye exams and procedures, submit asstons of paperwork, pay lots of out-of-pocket fees for the aforementioned exams and procedures, and then WAIT for my formal invitation - complete with country assignment and departure date. My estimated departure date is March 2011. So I am preparing by trying to save money (damn, those bills from the exams and procedures!), read voraciously about Eastern Europe, making lists (and more lists) of stuff I want to take, and spending time with my friends and family.

I want this more than I've wanted anything in a long time.

Thus far, I am healthy and there are no major health issues - just dental work. And even that's not so bad. Especially with nitrous.

But my first blog entry is being cut short because I'm being beckoned by Michael, my fabulous neighbor to come drink tea, talk shit and watch a movie (if we get that far).
